Deelder springlevend in nieuwe Winterbundel

Title

'Jules can't be there himself today, unfortunately,' said daughter Ari. But with the few and just the right words on stage and in the collection, Jules was momentarily alive again this afternoon! Besides the writers and poets Jules himself admired - such as Rien Vroegindeweij and Hans Wap who came to read their poems - Rotterdam, het Park and winter are important themes in the Winter Collection. Winter contains poems by John Cooper Clark, Charles Bukowski, Dorothy Parker, Simon Vinkenoog, Bert Schierbeek, Frans Vogel and Remco Campert.

Jules Deelder

'Jules can't be there himself today, unfortunately,' said daughter Ari. But with the few and just the right words on stage and in the collection, Jules was briefly alive again this afternoon!

Jules was a poet, musician, performer, Spartan, collector, artist, hertaler, user, jazz lover, speedster, night mayor, style icon, and Rotterdammer. A beat poet inspired by the past, always living in the now. In his poems with as few words as possible, he managed to describe the indescribable to many.

On December 19, 2019, Jules Deelder passed away at the age of 75.

TO THE MAS

Sitting by the Meuse
Peering into the sky
The noise of the city faded
One transcends oneself

On a higher plane
Winding through the air
beyond gravity
One finds another again

O bird of desire
swaying on the wind
Deliver us from one another
and from each other's weight

Poetry in het Park

het Park and poetry are both spaces for reflection, offering new perspectives and nourishing the mind. Each season, het Park Foundation publishes a book of poetry that is available for free pickup in het Park throughout the season, exclusively at het Park Pavilion and all hospitality venues in and around het Park. The anthology is a collaboration with Het Veerhuis, the new writing house on the Meuse, place for lovers of text, language and stories.

The fourteenth Park Collection, "Winter," follows collections compiled by Ahmed Aboutaleb, Dean Bowen, Abdelkader Benali, Ester Perquin, Elfie Tromp and - last fall - Marlies Dekkers, among others. With a print run of 4,000 copies, the collection makes poetry accessible to a wide audience.
